There are credible allegations that between them the Sri Lankan Govenment and the LTTE (the Tamil Tigers) killed tens of thousands of innocent civilains. That is not just our opinion but that of an impartial report of experts commissioned by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and a groundbreaking series of documentaries by Channel four.

These allegations have never been properly investigated by an independent body. This faliure to hold those responsible to account has led to the development of a culture of impunity in Sri Lanka where "anything goes" particularly in the north and the east. Murder, assualt, corruption, torture, and sexual harrasment are commonplace.

We can not let Sri Lanka's victims be forgotten. Despite the risks some brave people have come forward who are willing to tell the world what they saw. For their own safety we cannot tell you who, how, where, when, or who to - but they are willing to share their stories.

These stories need to be told as part of the healing and truth-telling process. And we hope that their personal testimonies might just push the international community to act finally to commit to the search for justice and accountability in Sri Lanka. But we need your help to make it happen.

All donations will be spent in line with our donations policy: If we are unable to use your contribution for the purpose you specify, either because of oversubscription or for another unforeseen reason, it is our policy to use your contribution to support further campaigning in the area concerned or other critical global campaigns. Approximately 80% of funds donated via this appeal goes directly into funding witnesses to rights violations in telling their story. The other 20% goes to important organizational needs like management, fundraising, legal advice, accounting support, and infrastructure, all of which are vital to effective campaigning.
