Feeling energetic? We certainly are. On top of the hive of activity at the campaign over the past few weeks – including the release of a brand new report, petition and website – our team have been quite literally running themselves breathless as they took on the Silverstone Half Marathon earlier in March to raise vital funds for the campaign.
For that effort, and owing to the amazing generosity of their sponsors, they were able to raise just under £500 for the campaign. This is money that will make a critical difference to our work fighting for a just and sustainable peace in Sri Lanka – helping to ensure that war criminals are brought to justice, building pressure for the release of political prisoners like Jeyakumary, and making sure that the voices of war survivors are heard by the international community.
Yet, with your help, we know we can do even more. That is why this month we are calling on our supporters to pledge to become an Official Sri Lanka Campaign Hero by agreeing to take on a sponsored challenge or to host a fundraising event this summer in support of the campaign. If you’re feeling short of ideas, here are a few to get you started:
- Take on a Sporting Challenge – with the weather picking up again, why not take the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and get fit at the same time by taking on a sponsored run, hike, swim or triathlon? We can give the advice and support you need, and will even get you setup with your own personalised fundraising page (like this one).
- Host a Foodie Event – if you prefer something a little less active (and a little more tasty) why not hold a Sri Lankan Cook Off with some friends and family? Or, if baking is more your thing, why not keep things simple with a classic workplace bake sale – you could even ask your employer to match any funds raised.
- Be a Daredevil – over the past few years we have seen volunteers really putting themselves out of their comfort zone for the campaign – jumping out of planes and even stepping into boxing rings for us. So if you too have a crazy side that you would like to put to good use, be sure to let us know.
If any of these ideas jump out at you, please do get in touch by sending a quick email over to us at [email protected]. We would be more than happy to arrange a call or a coffee to get things off the ground and to start you on your path to becoming a Sri Lanka Campaign Hero. Whatever you are able to commit to, big or small, your support is much needed and much appreciated.
We look forward to hearing from you!
