We just sent the following email to our supporters. If you are able to help us we would really appreciate it. And please do forward it to others who might be able to help.
Dear friend,
I’m writing to ask for your help. We need money. You have been very generous to us in the past so we are writing to ask if you can help again.
Why? Because there is so much work to do. War criminals continue to walk free in Sri Lanka, a country which is now the world’s worst democracy for media freedom[1] and is second only to Iraq for disappearances [2]. Abductions and torture persist, but with your support we can work to expose the perpetrators. Already this year we have had major successes embarrassing the regime over the Commonwealth Summit and the Human Rights Council. Now to press home our advantage, we need more funds.

Why now? Because yet again we are just a few weeks from running out of money. But we want to do more than just survive. We want to thrive and be able to take on the forces of injustice on an equal footing.
Against the millions spent by the Sri Lankan government on lobbying firms and on flying their diplomats around the world, we require only a few thousand pounds to carry out our work. But if we had an extra member of staff and a new email system we could massively increase our impact.
Each pound you contribute helps us to undermine the Sri Lankan regime, and brings Sri Lankans closer to a future where human rights and the rule of law are respected. This year alone our campaigns have reached thousands and changed the way Sri Lanka is seen [3].
So why do we rely so heavily on you to fund our work? To put it simply, our human rights agenda is bolder than many donors are willing to accept. We believe that our refusal to hold back on political campaigning is something you cherish, and that’s why we’re asking for your help, especially as you’ve supported us so generously in the past.

Based upon the amount you gave us last time we thought £10 would be the right amount to ask you for. But we know how easy it is to be wrong about this sort of thing so please feel free to give as much or as little as you can afford – it all helps. You can us a one off donation, or even better, in the UK you can donate monthly which really helps us with our project planning. We accept Paypal so it’s easy, quick, safe, and anonymous. Just click here to see all the options for giving.
And thank you so much once again for all your support thus far,
The Sri Lanka Campaign
P.S. Please do tell your friends about us, and forward them this email. We are going to need the support of lots of new people if we are to keep going.
